Background information > Cast & Characters > Michael French

Michael trained at the Mountview Theatre School and graduated in 1992. Since then he has starred in no less than seven theatre roles ranging from Chicago to Les Miserables and West Side Story. An extremely talented man, not only can he act, but he can sing and dance - tap, modern and ballroom.

Michael swept to fame when he starred in Eastenders as the loveable rouge, David Wicks.

"I am constantly touched by the public's positive reaction to David, and to myself, especially after the final episodes."

Having decided to leave Eastenders, Michael was approached to play a number of characters which were like David Wicks. But at the time he wanted to play a character that was completely different from David, which was one of the main reason for choosing Jeff Slade.

Michael seems to like playing Slade and describes him as:-

"Slade is a warm, instinctive but incorrigible detective with a sharp wit. He rarely plays by the book and often finds himself in comically heroic situations."
